Mr. L, the spirit of Luigi who came back for revenge after Mario was too late to save him.
The Green Ice Climber, the ice climber who came back to stitch Popo & Nana together.
The NES introduced many characters to the video game scene, with a good chuck of them being iconic and influential. Despite this, there’s a dark side to some of the characters, and in the case of Mario and the Ice Climbers, something happened to a relative of theirs, who has came back for revenge, but who would win in a fight? Well, let’s find out in a DEATH BATTLE!
BEFORE WE START
NOTE: I DO NOT SUPPORTS WHAT MR. PIXLES DID AT ALL, I’M ONLY MAKING THIS BECAUSE I LIKE THE MATCHUP AND I WANTED TO RESEARCH BOTH CHARACTERS. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MR. PIXELS OR ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH HIS ACTIONS, YOU CAN STOP READING THIS BLOG.
For Mr. L, we will be using Too Late.EXE. We will also be using every game in the Super Mario Bros. franchise up until Super Mario Bros 3, as the game is in the same art style as that game.
For the Green Ice Climber, we will be using Stitched.EXE. We will also be using the NES Ice Climbers game as that’s the only game in the franchise and Stitched.EXE taking place after it doesn’t contradict anything (also so things can become a bit more interesting).
BACKGROUND
MR. L
Mario, hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. He has a brother named Luigi, with both being in multiple adventures. But in this timeline, Luigi died in a pit of lava and come back “reborn”. Blaming Mario for his death, Luigi, now named Mr. L, would torment his brother, killing him multiple times, but Mario always came back due to the 1-Up Mushrooms. However, he would permanently kill his brother by making him fall into the same lava pit Mr. L fell to, ending the cycle.
THE GREEN ICE CLIMBER
The Ice Climbers, everyone knows them, after all, they have climbed at the top of the highest places. But what a lot of people don’t know is that there was a third ice climber, one who just vanished. Turns out this third ice climber (who we will be referring to as the Green Ice Climber) fell into an abyss and died, but was somehow resurrected. Loathing his siblings because they didn’t save him, he would kill climbers that came and would do experiments on them, resurrecting them. This led to a “family” forming, and when the duo came to the same place the Green Ice Climbers died in to pay respects to him, he would kill them and make them part of the family.
EXPERIENCE & SKILL
MR. L
Mr. L has been in the same adventures Mario has been, so he should have the experience & skill Mario has, and while it isn’t a lot, it’s definitely there as Mario has been through multiple enemies, including the likes of Bowser, who conquers kingdoms.
THE GREEN ICE CLIMBER
The Green Ice Climbers has been in adventures with the other ice climbers, so he should have the experience and skill they have, which includes climbing to the top of high places. He’s also smart, sneak attacking people and making sure areas has his “family” in them so anyone else in them can most likely die. He also knows how to revive the dead, which is definitely a great feat.
EQUIPMENT
MR. L
MUSHROOMS
A mushroom that makes anyone who uses it bigger and stronger.
1-UP MUSHROOMS
A mushroom that allow anyone who uses it to revive from death, though not all type of deaths (I.E falling into a pit of lava).
FIREFLOWER
A flower that allows anyone who uses it to throw fireballs.
SUPERSTAR
A star that makes anyone who uses it invincible for 7.5 seconds.
OTHER ITEMS
There are items that Mr. L never uses in Too Late.EXE, but should have used prior to his death as he went on the same adventures as Mario, who used these items. Here is a list of these items:
- Super Leaf: A leaf that gives anyone who uses it the ability to glide and swipe with a tail.
- Tanooki Suit: A suit that gives anyone who wears it the same abilities as the Super Leaf and the ability to turn into a statue.
- Frog Suit: A suit that gives anyone who wears it a higher jump and allows them to swim faster.
- Hammer Suit: A suit that gives anyone who wears it the ability to throw what seems to be an infinite amount of hammers.
THE GREEN ICE CLIMBER
HAMMER
Since the Green Ice Climber went on adventures with the Popo and Nana, it’s most likely he used a hammer like them.
ABILITIES
MR. L
SHAPESHIFTING
Mr. L shapeshifts from his faker form to his regular form in the beginning of Too Late.EXE. It can also be used to explain why he is so big in one of the levels.
PHASING
In one of the levels, the gimmick is that Mr. L slowly fades in but disappears when Mario looks behind him.
WHATEVER THIS IS
Not sure what to call this but in one of the levels, the gimmick is that Mr. L is in any reflective objects, and can break out of it to kill Mario.
ILLUSION CREATION/DUPLICATION
In the final level, multiple Mr. Ls are present, though they don’t do anything, so it’s unknown if they’re actually duplicates or illusions.
REALITY WARPING (DEBATABLE)
Mr. L is most likely responsible for how World 2 is like, though it’s unconfirmed.
4TH WALL AWARENESS/TECHNOLOGY MANIPULATION
After killing Mario, Mr. L looks at, tells us we were too late to save him, then jumpscares us. Not only that but when offering Mario a 1-Up Mushroom, two windows appear, with one of them saying yes and the other saying no. Another case of this is in the very beginning where Mr. L comes out of the shadows and breaks the map for World 1.
THE GREEN ICE CLIMBER
NECROMANCY
The Green Ice Climber can resurrect people from the dead and turn them into whatever he wants, whether it be as how they were, as spider-like or worm-like creatures, and more.
TELEPORTATION/ILLUSION CREATION(?)/POWER BESTOWAL
When entering a cave, the Green Ice Climber appears out of nowhere, and while it could be an illusion, right afterwards, a spider-like ice climber would come out of nowhere and take Nana, disappearing soon after. Considering how the Green Ice Climber resurrected them and no one in the ice climber franchise can teleport, this probably means that the Green Ice Climber gave the spider-like ice climber the ability to teleport, and by extension would mean he can teleport himself. Not just that, but the Green Ice Climber has been shown to teleport a few times afterwards.
GROUND MANIPULATION
In one of the death scenes, a spike comes out of the ground and stabs Popo. While we don’t know how it happened, it happens if the really big multi-eye ice climber sees you, meaning it’s possible they’re responsible for the spike death, and considering what I said in the last section, that would mean the Green Ice Climber would be able to do the same.
BODY MANIPULATION
When killing Popo, the Green Ice Climber changes his body to… whatever this is supposed to be called (not even disgusted, just confused on what to call this LOL).
REALITY WARPING/BFR
Surprisingly, the Green Ice Climber has reality warping powers, as in the end of the game, he teleports Nana to a level similar to Sally’s level in Sally.EXE without physical contact and is about crush her by making the area smaller and smaller, but the Green Ice Climber then teleports Nana to an area with a resurrected Pop in it.

OVERALL
- Killed and resurrected many people, including his own siblings.
- Stitched.EXE is a good game.

- Should be able to break blocks of ice and icicles.
- Should be able to knock polar bears off-balance.
- Scales above the resurrected ice climbers, who can eat the face of a person in one bite and the half of a body in a few bites.

- Can kill Nana before she can react.

WEAKNESSES
MR. L
Mr. L, while powerful, plays with his victims by tormenting them, doesn’t help that after being killed, he never fought someone on his level, instead he punches down.
THE GREEN ICE CLIMBER
Just like Mr. L, the Green Ice Climber plays with his victims by tormenting them, and he is also deaf, so you simply have to make sure he doesn’t see you. Plus he’s hideous.

VERDICT
All right, the combatants are set, we’ve run through the data for all possibilities. It’s now time for a DEATH BATTLE!
STRENGTH
Starting with strength and this is a bit close but Mr. L takes this. While the Green Ice Climber should be able to eat a face in one bite, Mr. L can eat an entire head in one bite. Not only that but Mr. L can crush an entire body with his hand while he is big. Meanwhile, the worm-like ice climbers the Green Ice Climber commands only can eat the half of a body. Mr. L might also be responsible for how World 2 is, which stomps any feats the Green Ice Climber can potentially have. So yeah, the winner of this category Is Mr. L.
SPEED
Yeah no the Green Ice Climber takes this LMAO. He’s the only one of the two who has speed feats. So he’s the winner of this category.
DURABILITY
This is a tie, both don’t have any durability feats.
ARSENAL
Surprisingly a bit close as both have similar powers but Mr. L takes this. While the Green Ice Climber can shrink the size of a place, Mr. L can manipulate an entire land (or world as it’s called). Not just that but Mr. L has 4th wall awareness and can cause the game to glitch. Another thing to consider is the fact that while both MIGHT have illusion creation, the Green Ice Climber has only been shown to be able to create one, Mr. L can create multiple, and if the multiple Mr. Ls in the end are actual duplicates/clones, then that could combat the “family” the Green Ice Climber has. What’s worse for the Green Ice Climber is that Mr. L has a bunch of items that can help him, including an item that allows him to revive from the dead-dead. So the winner of this final category is Mr. L.

While the Green Ice Climber has a better game, and is faster and not controversial, Mr. L is stronger and outhaxes him badly. Looks like just like the first time, the Green Ice Climber was too late to be saved, but this time, the thing responsible for his death was the winner, Mr. L.

Hi there! This is the second blog I’ve ever done. I REALLY like this matchup a lot and I think it’s underrated, which is why I made this blog, not only because I wanted to do a blog for this matchup, but because so people can be aware about this matchup’s existence.
